Im getting my first car, and Im searching into ALOT of them, 300zx, vw vr6, volvo, even the old *** porsche 944's. Then one day (about a week ago) I saw the most nicest 85' monte carlo in my life, I'm pretty sure it was a show car So, of course, the first thing I do when I come home I go on craigslist, and the price was very low, even if it had a new paintjob or what not. but then I saw it has a fat 4.3 liter? I love everything about the car, but is it suitable for someone who goes to college? My college is only like 20 minutes away. The good thing, though, is that my dad can't complain about insurance :P

yeah, i'd say get it. I use my Monte and I'm a high school student starting college in the fall, which about 35 mins away. so yeah... go for it!!! we'd be happy to have another Monte Carlo person here.

 

I've had mine since Aug. of '06 and that was right before I started my senior year of high school, and it's still a great car at college. Granted it's not that great for hauling a bunch of people around to parties and whatnot, but that can be considered a plus if you hate being the DD. I actually get comparable gas milage to those of my friends who are driving 4bangers and imports, and I have the bigger engine, and usually more power.

i haven't had one regret about my car since i have bought it, and mine has the 350 5.7L bored 30 over so its actually even higher...BUY THE MONTE!!! THE DARK LORD OF SPEED COMMANDS IT!!!lol

 

Yeah bro.. Montes are great cars, especially for the value. Good on gas, reliable, and pretty good looking. Mine has the little itty bitty 3.1, but I like the gearing, I can take my buds alero with a 3.4 pretty easy. I really have no complaints about it for what I want out of it. It's not gonna be a Shelby Mustang GT (although the 06 & 07 ss's are not to far off), but you'll definately be able to use the ricers inyour area as toilet paper!

The '81-88 Montes are nice cars. I know cause I own an '86 LS and my g/f owns an '81 SC.

The 4th gens are kind of noted for being stolen but that's mostly the SSs and then some of the LSs. The DONK guys love to sky ride the LSs.

But there are some really nice SC Montes running around and if you feel the need an SC can be SS cloned without too much trouble. A guy from Illinois has a real nice SS clone he wins shows with.
