Default Monte Carlo wont take any gas

I have a 2000 Monte Carlo and the gas hand was on a quarter of a tank. I drove further and the gas light came on so I pulled over and proceeded to pump gas in; however, the car let me put only $0.48 in and pushed the gas back out like it was full. What is going on?????

Not sure what your problem could be, but making 4 threads on the subject doesnt get your question answered any faster.

Sounds like it could be an evap problem. The evap system vents vapors and pressure from your fuel system. Your evap system may have a clog in it somewhere. The charcoal canisters are known to go bad and send little pieces through the evap vacuum lines. Also, make sure your filler neck doesnt have something obstructing it.

Thanks just at my wits end. just have too many dependant upon this one car. I relieved the fuel pressure on the fuel pressure valve and released some pressure in the gas tank and that let gas go in but the car did it again not long after i got in a gallon or so.

That's what I was going to say too. You can try letting the pressure out but if the evap system is clogged up, it'll just build back up again until you clean it out so the pressure can't build.

Is the evap the only vent on the tank? Mine did that sometimes but if I let it sit a minute or two it would go in all the way. Try filling it slow so it can bleed of pressure.

I think the evap system and the cap itself are the only vents the fuel tank has, but with the cap off, it should vent air to allow fuel to enter. Makes me wonder if either the filler is clogged or whatever vents the tank while you fill it is clogged.
