Hi Admin `Mike, so was I,

but > sometimes you can't believe everything
you see & read on the web (?)
The author seems valid, but I believe more research is needed by
real owner's like yourself & MCF Members (?)

Hi Habbibie,
Thanks for your post & opinion.
I do believe that some vehicles are made better then others & some have some serious flaws. Even `if they were maintained by the owner(s)...
I think the Monte has a few flaws that I've observed; ie; The steering shaft, the ignition(Passcode)system, a weak transmission>(especially `if abused & not maintained. (The crazy U-bend in the exhaust
, but they are minor compared to other makes & models.
I think the article & research is a good start in determining the vehicles that are problems & the ones that have less problems. It's good that someone is taking the time to do this study/research...

Hi Dub`Tyler,
I think or it's been proven that the GM 3.8L Engine is a bulletproof engine `if it is maintained. There sure is a lot of them in GM vehicles & there's many out there way over 500K miles without overhauls.
I've read on the MCF several that went over a million miles (but I don't know if they had valve etc work on them) Maybe a member knows ?
I like your Monte & I've learned that every car has it certain problems > even Honda's (lol)...
Thanks for posting/sharing... Wish you good luck on your decision on another vehicle...Do your homework 4-Sure!
I am also surprised about the motor being in the same ball park as the trans.
But I am still very happy with how my car runs and drives, and honestly for the money I have put in to fix the car, as I don't count maintenance, I can't complain, it's realistically about 4 and a half new car payments on the challenger that I want, vs over 4 years of driving now. So no complaints here

It would be interesting to know the geographic locations and conditions the samples were taken from for the statistics, (i.e. climate, topography, maintenance and type of use) and how they compared.
