Hey rev we weren't talking about a V6 vs V8 in the first place. We were talking about a 3.9 vs 3.8 SC. And I've driven an 06 SS and I had a 3.8 SC and with the few mods I had on my 3.8 SC it would own a new SS with the 5.3 V8!!!

Look at the mods that thing has. Thats crazy. Just get a stock to stock 5.3 to a stock S/c 3800 and then see. I think thats what were getting at. or even a stock 3.9 to a supercharged 3.8.

 

A stock 3.9 won't hold a candle to a 3.8SC. The SC will pull off the line much faster. And yes a 5.3 will take a stock 3.8 BUT with some mods a 3.8 will walk all over a 5.3. And there isn't many mods for the 5.3 yet which makes it even worse. Just my .02.

The original question asked in this post was regarding an 04 s/c vs an 06 V8. My answer was that I've had all the Monte engines except the 3.5 and 3.9. IMHO, the 5.3 is by far the strongest of them all. I am not one to start adding modifications to make factory stuff go faster. The factory engineers have to ensure that the higher performance stuff has all the rest of the goodies to make sure it holds together, otherwise GM will be flooded withe warranty problems, which for sure they don't want.

I did my hotroddingand modifyingin my younger days. Looking back, it cost me a pile of money. Today, I'll take the factory stuff with the warranty.

I have no idea whether a modded up 3.8 (supercharged or not) will keep up or beat a 5.3, and really I don't care. I do know that my 07 SS is a pretty fast car, anda whole lot offun to drive.

 

once i ever get my pulley installed i'll give you a go bill come up to woodstock and we'll have a little fun lol

By now you should have made a puller to change the pulley.......
Look in the tool cat's that you get at work
There should be something in there so you can change your pulley
If not drive it down here to Md and I will be more then glad to remove it for you......
