Those handheld tuners aren't that great. You want to get the car tuned with EFI-Live or HPTuners. I personally use HPTuners and prefer it. A lot of vendors can provide you with a mail order tune if you don't want to own the software yourself though.

There is so much that you can edit, it's well worth it.

A tune should wake the car up very nicely. You shouldn't drop MPG at all, unless your tuner messed up and left your car in open loop or messed up fueling beyond just adding a few degrees of timing and a touch more fuel on the upper end.

I don't know a damn thing about tuning, but that is something I'd be interested in doing, also...

So been driving without AFM for about 2500 miles. My calculations have been between 15-17 mpg. This is also winter and remote start miles. Hoping summer does better.

I'm in the same boat... I don't know that much about it. And, on top of that, there seems like various directions you can go and then actually going about getting it done 'seems like' a somewhat difficult process which is probably the main reason why I have yet to do it. It's probably not but that's what I've been telling myself.

Seems like you can go 'big brand' or 'local buddy'. I've seen Jason (Maniac) do it before and I know of a few others in the area who are experienced with tuning the LS4.

By the way, skijosh, since you're in Michigan you should to check out our Spring Meet coming up in May. Great chance to meet up with other local Monte owners, chat and see their cars.

I always drive in 3rd to purposely keep it in 8cyl mode cuz I'm too cheap to pay to get it deactivated haha but with that said I'm averaging between 16-18. Gotta admit ive got a real heavy foot tho lol

WOW, I dunno how you guys deal with 15-16 mpg, that's pretty awful!

I'm certainly not a gas mileage nut, but that's really low nowadays.

Haha i guess with the efficiency of cars nowa days it does seem low. My monte doesn't get pulled out of the garage much tho so it doesn't kill me lol
