Default A little update ;)

Miss me? (Facebook mcf has taken over my life! sorry! )

Had a few bumps along the road this winter, not living home as most of you know..Going through a Divorce.. but enough about personal life! Its all about the monte here ;D

So winter was rough to the Jr... Got a few scratches/ repairs needed.. Luckly nothing major. My passenger high sport trim got damaged from the car being pulled into a curb (thanks to nasty snow..) Has a split in the center. Going to give a try and repair it with a plastic welder sometime this year (or just get a new piece)

Just the other day I lost a caliper bracket bolt, f-ed up the inside of my rim and my new fbody caliper *sobsob* Luckly my boyfriend Dave has a scrap monte laying around...with perfectly good bolts and put one in. We were both driving out east on LI and heard some nasty grinding as we came to a hault..Had the smart idea to remove the bottom bolt and place it on top so the caliper doesn't swing forward with the force of the brakes. We limped our way home in second gear (for speed, and to downshift to slow down) taking nothing but backroads.

the damage..

Some good news!
Getting new exhaust tips this weekend thanks to a member! new sexy SLP tips to match my powerflow slp system! Also, Got new tires!!! Too many burnouts, heavy/hard driving wore out my used tires. I don't know how I drove around during winter on slicks.

New pirelli pzero nero's!

Currently got my hands on a rotary polisher! Used it on a previous warm day and compounded everything, all the minor spiderwebbing/swirling is gone...still need time to hand polish the fine marks from the wheel. Tomorrow will be the finishing day! (I almost don't want to drive the car when im done!)

Jen:
Its nice that you chose to check in with your MCF Family.
Yes you have been missed...

Its unfortunate what has happened to your Monte Carlo lately with both incidents... Heres hoping you get it taken care of before the official Car Show season starts.

Its a shame that you haven't been here more often like you use to... Some of us appreciate your help, comments and beinga bigger part of your MCF Family... Lets hope... you will be able to check in more often... Happy for you and Dave!
Divorce is never easy ... For anyone ever... Wishing you the best life has to offer !!!

Thanks again for checking in...

Welcome back Jen.

BTW - I've shared that experience with the caliper problem on my Monte and one other car. If you google it, you will find, many people have that problem when the caliper bolts to a bracket and the bracket bolts to the spindle.
The answer (as documented by GM in the shop book), a thread locker. I now use red loctite. Works great and I am able to take the bolts out by hand (even though it states you may need heat). Have not had a single bolt back out since.

The shop had an issue when taking my caliper off to do my hub, they said that someone had cross threaded the bolt and they wernt sure if it had gone in there right, I drove it for 5 mins and heard the caliper hitting the wheel when I braked. Took it back and they replaced to caliper for free. I wonder if this was related...

That sucks about you Monte! But I'm sure you'll get it fixed! Sounds like you really care about (him or her). One of these days I'm going to get all the body work fixed on mine but not till I'm done modding it so it might be awhile.lol Great idea on moving the bolt to the top!!! There is so many people that would have just called a tow truck! I guess we just love our cars to much to let them out of our sight.lol Anyway it's great to see on here again!
