Absolutely correct, I agree completely! I was only suggesting he try this as a diagnosis and temporary fix, not to be run long term. He wont appreciate the gas mileage for long at any rate, I know I didn't, and I only ran it as such for a week while I was waiting for the replacement MAF.

And how long can you drive without the MAF plugged in?

No, the throttle body. A small amount of coolant passes through that, and the TB mates with the UIM above the cross over.
You shouldn't drive around at all with the MAF unplugged. It's typically just a diagnostics thing, it's going to put your car into a mode where it runs rich.

Depends on how long you need to be able to replace the MAF. Like Chibi said, runnin' without it can toast your cat(let alone your gas mileage), and these cars tend to do that with a natural proclivity as it is without any help. the wires, Meh. Just make sure they're not hanging close enough to a manifold or anything and you should be just fine. I pulled mine out of the socket just enough to leave it anchored, just not making contact.

Sunroof problem = New sunroof Motor
Stalling = Bad MAF possible as stated.
Blown fuses/intermittent faults = Check for bare wires, loose connectors and system grounds.
Subwoofer rattle = Dynamat or similar products will help.
Shaky steering wheel = Wheels & tires may need to be balanced. If shaky only under braking, brake rotors may need to be turned or replaced.

Mine started stalling and got worse till you had to start by blipping the throttle and feathering the gas to keep running, cat glowed red hot...we swapped out everything and asked a guy to use his Tech II scanner ... when we started it up , he said shut it off.... pulled all the wires and gas lines up from behind the TB.... there was a big melted hole where the flex tube from the egr, goes into the UIM.... egr was stuck open and the hot gas from the exhaust caused a melt down.... ECU threw every find of code there was as it could not cope. Glad it did not melt into the TB water passage, as I have heard that cause a lot of grief... He stuffed a wad of duct tape in the hole and 3 patches on top and it ran like new back to the shop...but would not think that would last for long.... I replaced EGR and UIM.... replaced LIM gaskets while it was down ... runs great !!!
