???Limp Home mode???
hey, has anyone heard about a limp-home mode on these cars?
"A limp-home mode was added to the standard features list last year (2000). This allows for emergency driving in the event of total coolant loss, such as might be the case if a coolant hose fails."
http://www.theautochannel.com/vehicl.../solo0128.html
If so, does anyone know what it does, how it works, how far you can drive on it?
I know, when it breaks stop and fix it ASAP or call for a tow, Im just asking as a reference incase im driving somewhere with like 20 miles between exits and no idea if theres an auto parts store near that next exit.

I had to look it up in my owners manual. I have a PDF version so I can copy and paste the info. Here's what the manual says:
oil life system. See Engine Oil on page 5-18.

Overheated Engine Protection

Operating Mode
This emergency operating mode allows your vehicle to
be driven to a safe place in an emergency situation.
If an overheated engine condition exists, an overheat
protection mode which alternates firing groups of
cylinders helps prevent engine damage. In this mode,
you will notice a significant loss in power and engine
performance. The low coolant light may come on
and the temperature gage will indicate an overheat
condition exists. Driving extended miles (km) and/or
towing a trailer in the overheat protection mode should
be avoided.

After driving in the overheated engine

allow the engine to cool before attempting any repair.
The engine oil will be severely degraded. Repair the
