stock 350 turbos right off of other 81 montes that i had found for sale for cheap

EDIT: What happened to the first 2? well i would start to lose reverse, then reverse would go out completely and then finally the entire tranny would just die... I raced a 87 Monte once (it was my cousins) and whipped her azz... then about 10-15 miles down the road i lost ALL ability to movedue to the transmissiongoin out...

If not contact me i migh tbeabel to help you out wiht it. I need a drive line anyway .and i know you siad it had a 350 in it LOL

Might beabel to get rid of your eye sore and get me the motor i need for this one. and a good tranny and the front seats etc...

I will even paint your dash for you LMAO!!

Anyone I've ever talked to says the 400 is a lot better trans then the 350 is. They take more horsepower and abuse.

The 700-R4 would be a better trans if you're street driving the car due to the O/D is has. I have to hand it to the 200-4R in my '86 Monte. It does help on the gas mileage. and I drive my '86 to a lot of cruise-ins during the summer months.

I know a lot of the Tri-5 guys went with O/D trans in their cars due to the lower RPMs they offer. Gasoline isn't free anymore.

yea, well i am thinking about picking up a little beater azz honda civic for a daily driver, then turn my car into a race car, and a show car, i haven't decided yet tho

WELL let me tell ya from what ti have leaned from my two Weeks of being on or around cars.
If you so chose to get a beater car to leave the monte sit and work on it. Then you need to do this in one of two ways.
1. you have a nice driver that is capabel of some light bracket racing that is a fun to drive BUT RELIABLE street car also.
Where it has nice paint, nice interior, nice wheels and tires and nice motor and tranny etc..
Some race parts but For the most part looks like a good fun car.


2. You tear your car apart.
I mean GUT IT OUT!!! you take all the insides out of it. you build a 7,0000.00 motor and tranny that are race ready. Take all of the interior out of it and put a roll cage in there.
tear the body off the frame and lighten it up as much as you can. in the inner fender wells, change what you can to glass in the failed you plan to run in.

get the rear end set up and rebuilt to take the abuse of the motor and tranny you want to put in to it.
have a tech go over the rules with you or at the least a person that has been racing under the current rules long enough to know how to make the car fit in to the right place.

And figure that you pretty much will no longer drive that car for more then a 1/4 mile at any given time. and put as much in to it that it needs so that tit can be a good race car. AND HOPE that the fool in the lane next to you understands he needs to keep his car in his own lane and that nothing happens to you or them while on the track.

oh and make sure you have another motor tranny and rear end and even a drive shaft or two and a good tool box to go with all of it. and a trailer to go with it.

This is about the only advice i can honestly give you.
I had a car that was street driven and would run low 10's on a really really good day.
but for the most part it was around the 10.5 average. But was also my car to go to and from school i drove it to the track and home and also to work and back.
I had so much tied up in to it that each week i would go race in the streets for pink slips so that i new i could afforded the nexts weeks addiction at the track. And if i broke it i walked. NOT FUN!!

So i tell anyone with the same thing your asking from us here.

If this is really what you wan to get in to and you really like the car you have and you REALLY want to have a race car. Instead of getting a beater car. to drive. Then go find another car like the one you want to turn in to a racer and build it in to the race car and leave the one you have now on the street on the street.

you can find one like the Malibu i just found real cheap. the body is the only thing i have right now and i could go full race with it SUPPER EASY!! and i have paid 250.00 for it.
i can put the frame under it and when i do it would be full race ready. the rear end i would build race ready also with the gears i wanted in it for the motor and tranny.
and the interior would stay gutted and actually i would take even more out of it. to save weight. get some aluminium sheet and make interior on the body ONLY after i had the cage built.
and when i was putting it all to gather i would do it according to the rule books so when done i could take it to the track and run as hard as i wanted and see where i landed. and hoped i won enough to make it fun and i had gas money to get it home again.

I hate to be this way just trying to let you know exactly what your talking about here.
I have been there an believe me i LOVED IT!! but this is also why i have owned 8 78 monte carlos.
And alsot hereason for me wanting the MAlibu over the 78 mone i found. I would love to have both but it is not in the cards right now.

i would not go with the th400 because you dont need it its a real good trans you wont kill it but a th350 will be just fine for what you need get it built right i have one and puting in the 500 hp range in it no prob
the 400 takes more power to spin so if you dont need it i would not use it the 350 is next then the 700 followed by the 200 and they go by same order in for durabillity 400 is the best followed by the 350,700,200
but i am considering a th700r4 swap for my car next year thay can build them to take some good power now and they make them non-lock up too!!

i was thinking of it for the Malibu. just for the fact i can make the over drive as a 1:1 ratio.
and the rest can pretty much be all preformance or close to it and still get decent millege.
but when you want to hammer on it you can also.
