No friend of mine has ever driven my car.

The thing about the placement on the steering column is that when its dark you gotta bend around the wheel to find the damn hole.

I love it on the dash, I do get confused sometimes with the GTO as that one has it on the column, I'd love it if all my cars had it on the dash.

I agree with what everyone else has said. I wish mine was on the dash. Oh well, I also wish I was wealthy and didn't have to work anymore, but I digest! :p

The dash is a good spot but im always trying to stick the key in the dash on my other car. I always reach for the shifter on the floor in cars with column shifters too.

I think moving the Ignition Switch from the Steering Column to the Dash made it more difficult for car Thieves to break-in and take-off with the car.
Now, instead of just shattering the Plastic surrounding the Ign on the column and yanking the lock cylinder out of there, ... the Ign is attached to something that diables the car if you mess with too much.

I prefer the column ignition. I have a very large amount of keychains, mostly pictures of my cats and bottles of pepper spray, so I would hate to see those rub against the pictures of my cats that I have on my dashboard.
