I just got a 78 monte and my buddy told me that the ttops are hard to come by. Wanted to find out how many were made?

 

Does anyone know?

I'm sorry, I have no idea. I vaguely remember a thread from a long time ago where those numbers were discussed. But it was last year and I can't for the life of me remember where it is. Hopefully Kidspace (our resident research specialist), or another informed memberis able to find an answer for you.

first off welcome.
I belive they had a pretty good run but way back when they were also a car that alot of pepole took out and tore them up so a bunch of them were wrecked etc... Or even parted out due to ther inheriante weakness in teh roof lines and also how they were heavy so they were not good as a race car.

But dont get me wrong thier numbers were not near as high as the other styles and options.

Do you have the Tops?
What do they say on them are they Fischer? or another version?
Belive there were two diffrent ones or three. but the ones that have the Fischers are the hard ones to come by.

I have been trying to find one for years in good enough shape to restore and put on the road.
The last one i ehard of i could not get the cash up for it fast enough. [:@]

I do know that, like mickey said, they are more rare than others. Especially now. Back in the day, GM cars with T-tops were stolen very easily and were victims of chop shops. So now those cars are very rare. I highly recommend installing a very good alarm system if you haven't already done so.

 

also the green wire on the Dist. is the one to cut. cut it install a switch on it and hide the switch.
I actually installed 3 of them in one of mine you had to know what combo to have them in to get the power threw it to start the car.
Beliv eme DO NOT FOR GET THIS!! LOL took me hours once till i could remeber it and still hadent tried that combo.

But it will crank all day long but wont allow the motor to get spark therfore no start.
