Home made CAI
Well I'm not sure if those goes in body or intake so I'll just ask here...
Me and my mechanic friend/mentor are planning on building a CAI for mah monte, our plan is to make a new filter box that's smoother, have the air enter from the top of the box, then use weather stripping and vacuum hose to direct the air flow to the center of the hood. Then make a fiberglass scoop on the front center of the hood. Sound slike a good plan to us, but im wondering if you guys might have anything to say about it

home made CAI....
....Just be sure to leave room for the MAF sensor in the bottom
of the air box and remember to make a hole for the IAT Sensor
to fit into. Keep in mind the upper radiator hose Clamp. Make
sure that it doesn't hamper the air box install. Try to keep
the appearance neat and professional looking. Check your hood clearances.
That's my two cents worth.......

have you considered making a fenderwell intake? seems less complicated than what you are doing. you just need some piping (or flexible hose) and a filter and run it down into the fenderwell where there is plenty of cool air. inexpensive and effective.

Well I'm not really going for easy on this one lol
I've never seen a monte carlo with a hood scoop that actualy served a purpose, although I'm sure theres plenty on here. Also would'nt the hood scoop help force air into the engine more so then an intake below the car or in the fender well?

exactly what i was trying to explain lol, http://mpd1.com/content/mc_ramair2000_big.html
although instead of the hexagon shape i was thinking have a U formed to help direct the air flow
the smoother it is the better the aerodynamics

pick up a tigg welder and some sheets of aluminum, have at it.
then take um down to a local sign shop and have them engrave some custon stuff in there.
i dont see the point of the box unless its
1 insulated
2 keeps the heat out.
you dont want to make a green house intake for sure.
