You may have posted this in the wrong area? But check your fluid if not red color have it changed, you probably should do it every 50K for sure. Then add in a quart of Lucas Oil trans additive and it may get you buy for a little bit. You most likely will need it rebuilt though.
Hi Jon,
My 2006 Monte just turned 200k miles. Good to hear about using synthetic oil. So far, I've been using good old Valvoline 5w30. Maybe its time to switch? I just finished replacing the plugs and wires. Wow what a difference in milage!
Take care,
Bob
Late to the party, but since I bought my 03 SS not that long ago, I have to be late. Anyway, 255k on it. Just did intake gaskets and a bunch of other things. The AC not working is pissing me off, since it looks like it's in the fuse box. Also, I'm getting a seat out of the junkyard hopefully tomorrow. The last two times, I haven't been able to get it.
But I have driven a variety at over 150k, I have used both Mobil 1 , and Valvoline synthetics. I have mostly driven Jeep Grand Cherokee's from 150k to over 300k and generally used Valvoline 20w-50 , and then went to Straight 40W after 250k or earlier, these weights are getting harder to find, but I've been using 40 wt Zinc Valvoline, I live in Florida, its hot here so I prefer a higher weight.
im new and not sure how to navigate. to be quick, i have a 2005 MC LT 3.8L V6. non supercharged. its at about 195k miles. im trying to decide what plugs/plug wires to install as its about that time. was thinking about ACDelco plugs, wires, and coil packs. i dont really know anything about cars. she has a few more issues, but im starting small first.
Welcome. That certainly qualifies as high mileage. If cost isn't a significant factor for you, AC Delco is a good choice for plugs and wires. If yours are still original and working, that's pretty good performance. I'm not aware of a mileage replacement requirement for the coil packs and have not had to replace mine at 157k and counting. There are many here who advocate AC Delco-only for electrical components. Post in the New Members forum and tell us more about what you have and photos.
Thanks for the advice and ill post some pictures soon! Shes a little beat up right now though. As far as the ACDelco plugs go, would iridium, platinum, or conventional be the best?
Iridium is original equipment designed for 100k. Rock Auto has a $3 rebate so they are less than $2.50 each (plus shipping). I have a friend whose GMC truck was still running fine at over 150k! Unless you just like to change spark plugs.
