RE: Hey.. I'm getting 17MPG Now
My average speed according to the driver info center is usually between 31-34 MPH.I don't think it resets with resetting the average MPG,you have to do it separately. My average MPG has been 21-22 running 93 octane. It turned 12000 miles last week.I really didn't break the 20 MPG mark until it had 10000 miles on it.

Not to sound like the victim here, but it seems like every one is doiong WAY better than me on the MPGs. Like I said earlier, I am not expecting 20's, but would love to be in the 17s. Any thoughts as to why or things to research as to the potential cause?
Thoughts on the blackened bumper cover and trunk lid due to the exhaust?

[sm=gears.gif]Hi `Ed,
Maybe you are only getting 17 MPG, because of
a heavy foot on the `gas pedal ?
or
those `Jack Rabbitt starts : )
[:-]

Or just to hear the sound of your powerful V-8 ?
Everyone drives different. I just know `if I had
a 06 V-8 SS, I would have a very difficult time,
not jump'in on the `gas.
Good Luck

RE: Hey.. I'm getting 17MPG Now
Well... Mine is back down into the 14.5 to 15.6 range. I have tried:
1. Ignoring the sound of my car and just driving it like a little old lady. Started off well after I cleared the Avg MPG, but by the end of the tank I was down to 14.5.
2. Put Fuel Injector Cleaner into my tank (my car sat almost TWO-YEARs on the dealership lot) so I figured maybe the injectors are dirty. By the end of the tank, I was down to 13.8 MPG.
3. Ok.. I'll change routes to work and take the expressway vs the surface streets. Helped a little, got 15.6 by the end of the tank.
4. Force the car to stay in V8 mode, how, by placing the shifter into 3 gear and the car will not go into 4-cyl mode at all. Started off good 17-18-MPG, thought I hit on the secret, but noooooo. I'm just about ready to get gas and I flipped over to check, and I am actually down to 14.2 MPG.
I have gotten hopeful a few times, and manage to stay around 17-18MPG, jump on-line, tell you guys how happy I am, but never has it stayed that high. I too have a great deal of sut coming out of my tailpipe indicating the car is running rich, but -- you know our mechanic of today -- the car is not throwing any codes, so the mechanics do not know how to adjust or fix it. We are raising a class of computer idiots -- 1+1=2, 2+2=4, 4+4=16. The computer is wrong... NO... Computers Never Lie... Computer NEVER WRONG! OooooK... computer programmed by man... Man makes mistake, thus computer make mistake! NO.. Computer Not Lie... Computer Never Wrong....

RE: Hey.. I'm getting 17MPG Now
Haha well we proved it today that I can officially never run out of gas. I might not be able to beat you in a race brenden, well actually we'll have to see, but I can def. beat you on a tank of gas. Lets do it this summer, just see who can drive the farthest from the same point haha.
