I remember having dial up. So I can certainly understand the frustration of having to download a large file.
What about sending the file to an email address like Gmail or yahoo mail as an attachment maybe. Then simply download the attachment from your email to your computer late at night when everyone is done using the computer for the night? That way, you can simply let it download and not worry about how long it's taking.
Just a thought.
Or even better, have a friend with highspeed internet download the original file from the internet. And save it onto a USB thumbdrive. Then you can simply plug in the thumbdrive, transfer the file to your computer, and give your friend his thumbdrive back.
