Have any of you ever installed some performance cams on your monte to give it that classic muscle car sound? Mainly interested in hearing from those with a v6 monte as that is what I have. I've personally never heard a "cammed" v6 in person.

You'll never get a muscle car sound out of a V6 unless it's turbocharged. Even then it's arguable.
Go on youtube and look up 3800 grand prix cam or something of the sort

Generally from what I have heard on here, people don't like to try and make there V6 Monte Carlos louder or much louder. As far as I know no one here has cammed there car on here. I have however found a video of someone camming an 07 Monte Carlo SS. But the video was unfortunately filmed with a potato and has horrible sound.

I don't understand what you're trying to say. Lots of us have a cammed 3800 (including myself). With that said, 3800's sound like crazy leaf blowers when built. They typically have a good sounding idle, but as soon as you touch the gas pedal, it sounds like crap. Also, 3800's are pushrod engines, so you only have one cam fyi.

Hey zipper first off nice Monte, secondly thanks for telling me they are pushrod engines. Pretty neat to know that seeing as from what I have seen most modern cars on the street are not pushrods. With that being said do they only have one cam for the entire engine or just one for each head meaning we have two cams in the entire engine? Sorry for sounding like an idiot I'm not a mechanic but I love cars and am slowly studying more about them. I just want to put in a performance cam instead of stock so that hopefully I get a more throaty sound.

Thank you for the kind words Griffindor. A pushrod engine is an engine that uses one cam in the block to open the intake and exhaust valves via pushrods (thus the term pushrod engine). 3100/3400/3500/3800/3900/5300 engines all have 1 cam.
Also, DO NOT get a cam for the sound. A cam should be chosen to optimize power based on the setup of your engine. Therefore, if you plan on going turbo, then buy a cam that will be ideal for a turbo. I don't recommend camming an NA 3800 simply because the gains are minimal when compared to rockers. A cam swap is a weekend project or more (or about 6 hours for a pro) depending on your experience while rockers can be done in an hour or two with minimum skill needed (if you can use a rachet and sockets you're good).
Best thing to do with a 3800 is make it sound stock but give it more get up and go then other people expect. People laugh at my Monte all the time just because of the way it sounds.
