Got TERRIBLE news with my Monte today

That really does suck, crazy how much a few winters can just rot away a car like that. See how much of it is replaceable and if you want me to look for anything let me know man.

Took it to a Chevy Dealership near my apartment in Elkins Park. They are honestly a great service center. The head service manager is the one that I always talk to. He's a really great guy, he has helped me out a ton, and he goes above and beyond for me.
He has an old Nova that he has fully restored, we often talk.
He knows me by my 2 vehicles. The second my head pops in the service center he asks if I need anything for the Monte or the Camaro.
I agree that it sounds fishy, but I also think he took a lot of time checking out everything on my Monte to let me know. He didn't even give me a list of prices or parts or suggest that I fix it right there using him and giving me a crazy cost. They know anything they fail, I will usually replace myself and come back for the proof and get a sticker.
I think he thinks I have spent too much on this "common car" and was truly trying to do me a favor by telling me about this rust and wanting to see me in a newer car. I told him flat-out I have no plans to get rid of this car, and that I will start to look at body shops.
I will try to fix it though. The smaller shop should check out everything and hopefully pass me because I too have seen rustier pieces of crap on the road.

There's no doubt Mike, that they want you to trade in either your Monte or your older Camaro for a brand new one.

I know he is the service manager, but again maybe they all have a common agenda, like "Moving cars off the lot". Who the heck really knows, guess thats where the 2nd opinion comes in handy.

Sorry for your troubles Mike. That really stinks. The thing about Arkansas weather is that we don't have enought snow and ice to worry about salt eating away at a vehicles structure. However, we do have hail storms down here and flooding in the low areas.

Geeze, who would even consider trading a Monte Carlo for a new Camaro

Did you undercoat it regularly Chibi? I mean oil spray - how hasn't this become a thread about undercoating? Is undercoating/ oil spraying a car only a Canadian thing? Around here people have their car sprayed every year. I winter store the BudChev so I only get it done every other year. Its a little messy, but its gotta be done. I'm wondering is this isn't common pactice in the US or was it just not helpful enough to prevent this

Dont think its common practice in the us, i dont know of anyone who gets their cars undercoated yearly. Friend of mine in canada used to work at Krown, was always hoppin there

Krown does the best job. They don't just spray under the car. They "atomize" the oil and spray it inside the doors, fenders - absolutely everywhere. They even drill holes to reach some areas.
I would have thought this common practice in at least the north US. The weather doesn't really change that much just cuz you crossed the border! seriously, it's an entire industry here. There are shops the do nothing but oil spray (like Krown) and some are only open seasonally because people tend to only think about undercoating in the fall...

Wow, that sucks. My Monte spent 4 years in Minnesota winters, and as soon as I got it out of there I started (and still am) slowly replacing rusting original parts to avoid this exact outcome
