It was on my '02 SS, they said it would've cost about $600 and they billed GM. At least,
that's what they (Smicklas Chevrolet in Oklahoma City) told me and they didn't charge me a dime.

The new monte's do not have a plastic/composite intake manifold.

Yes they do... the 5.3L V8 in the SS does at least... don't know about your V6's though...

From Chevrolet.com site about the 5.3L V8 engine:

"Composite Intake Manifold — the composite intake manifold design allows the small block V8 to deliver high levels of torque at low- and mid-range engine speeds, while still delivering plenty of air flow for peak engine horsepower."

its also the dex-cool(red antifreeze) that causes this problem too

there is a way to switch your car over to green, and that is to have the rad system drain completely and boiled out, any rad shop can do this, and then refilled with green antifreeze(way cheaper and better on the engine

yes the dex cool does eat up gasket it eats up paper gasket bad the 3.9 and 3.5 have a aluminum intake the 5.3 is the composite, my truck had the composite it was a 5.3 but i never had any problems with it leaking had over 100000 miles on it and i flushed the systems once only problem is the water pump gasket had to change either due to the dex cool and lack of torque to the bolts when i took the bolts out of the water pump to change the gaskets i didnt even have to break them over, they were loose ? gm should of put lock tight on them, i build hydraulic winchs for a living and i know all about gaskets wear and tear and seals leaking, the dex cool is for aluminum blocks, heads and, intakes, helps prevent rust and has a very long life spand, also it is animal resistant.
