lol i wouldnt even drive chances are if you live that close a co worker drives by you. I wish I lived that close Id buy a bike and a raincoat. My area no jobs within 7 miles a few but not enough to pay bills on until about 10. talk to a mechanic about driving on a cold engine like that. If you let it warm up your good if not you can cause damage thats why you dont rev an engine right when you start it. btw thats travel not drive most of those are prob city dwellers who use public transport.

I only live like 2 miles from work. But I usually open it up at least once and let it get into closed loop.

My commute is only 6 miles to work.

My Monte doesn't seem to be that bad...

I had quite a few issues when I bought the car from it sitting so long - it was 10 years old when I bought it and it barely had 50,000. Luckily they parked it in a decent spot - minimal rust underneath (Most of the rust came after I bought it since we love salt up here come wintertime).

My commute varies from 15, 20 or 30 miles one way depending which building I'm going to.

the only thing i had trouble with mine was the rack and pinion head gaskets and water pump. it was a recall and was covered by gm it runns beautifull now. tires breaks all around oil and radiator fluids change it runs great for a 3.5 i cant complane exept for the seats there a little to hard for my liking but it has been reliable for me for 98k+ i cant complane. i am sorry if you dont like it and going for a four door. i dont blame you because you do have a family and it is kinda hard getting in and out of most two doors. my kids and brothers kids like the two door look they hop in the back quick but. it is up to you for changing makes. i agre with you one most models gm has feels a little cheap. but sorry to hear that you are having problems

fyi drove monte today without letting it warm up took 7 miles befor it hit normal temp. If driving under that I strongly recommend letting it warm up a bit. It really does add to the life of your car.

Don't feel bad. I just had a 2007 Impala in yesterday with 50k that needed $1500 in repairs.

It should not take 7 miles to reach full operating temp. My Monte is fully up to temp within 2-3 miles, even when temp gets into the 30's. If it's taking 7 miles of driving for full operating temp, i'd say your thermostat might be getting sticky/ worn out.

You have a 3.5 correct? They get warm WAY faster than a 3.4 or 3.8. Partially due to the way the coolant crossover pipe is designed. My 3.4 takes 5 minutes to even hit the bottom hash on the gauge.
