Default gdam subwoofers

stopped working a few days ago. so i figured a loose wire or something. checked all the wiring. and the amp is getting power. so i pulled my dash apart (chris can vouch for how much a pain in the *** this is) and checked the connections. still nothing wrong.

so now i think i fried my amp. so i unhook my sub and wire it to one of my 6x9's in the trunk and it works. alright. wiring is good then.

so i pulled my sub out of the box to see if maybe the wiring in there is broken. and it's not. so i wired directly from the amp to the sub without going through the connections on the back of my box. still nothing.

any thoughts? i'm going to take the subwoofer back. i'm thinking it's fried unless i'm missing something

Is there an internal fuse or some other kind of overload protection circuit in the sub maybe?

yeah i know chad d00d for something that just pops into place you'd think its easier but no gm has to make it impossible to the point you're a hair away from snapping it in half. but yeah you've gotten either a bad sub or a blown one bro. take it back and git r done

not that i can see without pulling it apart. i have a warranty on it so i'll take it in tommorow. they can test it there too and see if it'll work or not.

and yea chris it's that little storage space on the left hand side underneath the headlight switch that makes it such a pain in the ****. i soldered all my connections for my deck so i wouldn't ever have to pull the bloody thing apart again.

Haha chad. I understand your pain. I had that same problem too. took me forever to get my dash together after doing my deck. I used butt connectors, and i'm hoping those don't come unplugged at all.

Visions has two 10inch kickers with a box for 250 on sale right now, i was thinking of picking up that for my car.

I think i might steal my brothers old lcd screen/dvd player and fiberglass it into the tape holder below the radio, and stash the dvd player somewhere else, but we'll see in the new year how much free time i can get . Or how much free time my brother's shop has, so i can steal some time in a heated shop, haha.

Well if you have a singal voice coil you will take a ohm meter and measure the resistance. For example mine is a dual voice coil at 4 ohms each.

I take the + of the meter and go to the + on the coil of the sub.
I take the - of the meter and go to the - on the coil of the sub.

the meter would say 4 ohm or something close to that reading. Mine was 3.33.

If the number is way off by more then half a ohm I would have it checked out by your retailer. If the number is higher then the rate ohm of that coil again take er to the retailer. If you have a damaged coil you can harm your amp or the other componets that are attached..

While having the meter on the coil it is advised that you can push a little bit on the cone and see if the ohm changes, if the meter goes into OVERLOAD or NA or a none readable number you sub coil is shoot.
