Had a chance to snap a few shots of Sam's Monte today while my Monte was being given it's last rights, well at least the turbocharger was being laid to rest.
Sam's 7th Ge. 07 Monte Carlo SS is over the top. They genuinely expect it to be finished shortly. All the heavy engine build / tuning / transmission build is done. Just a few more tweaks like adding a fuel temperature gauge and other mach nichts things on the to do list and she will be going home to Michigan.
Notice Sam's functional NACA hood vents to help assist in evacuating underhood air and reducing the engine bay temperatures. On Sam's last trip out here to Utah he himself cut the hood vent openings and other work on his Monte. said it really gave him a wonderful feeling just working on the car. This has been a 3 year build, which in and of itself is testimony as to all the painstaking concept, design, build, test, refine, test work going in to this one of a kind Monte Carlo. Some of the tire shots show his special wheel spacers.
here are some of his own words.
I think the hood looks terrific with the hood vents. They came off a '94 Grand Prix - Russ painted them to match the latches and Matt says they really look great. Put some 275's in the back and had some special stainless spacers made up, hubcentric, so they really are an extention of my hubs with some longer ARP studs - got those wheels and tires inside the wells without flaring the fenders which is great because I still got that OEM look. And like you I have 255's in the front without spacers
So here are a few shots I took today, one bad azz 07 Monte Carlo SS..... It has been destroked and tuned down to around 850whp, was pushing 1100 whp but had one to many issues up that high. So they pulled her back down to a still crazy 850whp or so...

Hey - Mitch, sorry about my lack of response - just been so busy with work and family just have not had much time for much more. I think I did send a private message once, don't even remember it was so long ago. I have to say Greg Hubbs has to be my biggest fan. I mean my whole build was inspired by his car and now I have the privlege of having him speak so highly of my build. I talk to my tech every thursday trying to get updates. There are some issues remaining not so much in building or putting things together but mostly tuning issues and fuel cooling. The vents on the hood still are not enough - I bought an extractor vent out there to size up on the hood when I get there next month to see if I can make it fit with a couple other vents I have. I am going to have so many holes in the hood - it will be like running without one. The extractor is off a 2012 GT 500 Mustang. Ford makes that hood 2 piece unlike GM and the Camaros which are 1 piece. I will be out there mid-January to add some more holes in my hood myself like I did the other two and hopefully make my final arrangements to bring her home.
