Although I'm still a newbie, I certainly agree that 06-07 is a 7th generation. In fact, I was convinced of that before I even bought one.

In the Lincoln Mark VIII community, there are two distinct and well-recognized generations - gen-1 (93-96), and gen-2 (97-98). From what I can tell, thesignificant changes that separategen-6 and gen-7 Montes are about the same as those involved with the Mark - perhaps even more with the Monte.
Great feedback and I am sure that is resonates with many automotive communties.

So where are the Wikepedia guys, we here at MCF will take a vote and I guarantee a victory for 7th gen.

I would agree with you but,
Look what they did to the car just between 2006 and 2007
Dropped the LTZ/LT3 (ok which most is trim expect for the engine)

It would have been the LTZ and LT3 & LT2 between '06 to '07.

Wasn't there just an LS and SS for '07?

I found this on Edmunds.com just now.

Significant changes in 2006 have helped the Monte Carlo come nearly full circle back to its original mission with sportier chassis tuning, improved driving dynamics and more power in SS models, while freshened interior and exterior styling offer a sculpted and pleasing contemporary appearance.

Based on changes in appearance, the Monte Carlo has several MORE generations, then.

1973-1975 (single, round headlights)
1976-1977 (dual, stacked headlights ... makes for a MUCH different front end appearance)

1978-1979 (single headlights with turn signals to the side)
1980 (dual headlights with turn signals underneath the side ... also, slightly different dash with wood trim)

(and)

1981-1986.5 ... Sport Coupe
1986.5-1988 ... Luxury Sport

...with regard to the last 2,if you, like me, had each side by side, you would notice the changes that make for a completely different look AND feel.

The changes I was talking about go just a tad beyond headlights and turn signals...changes suchas sheet metal, interiors andengines, for example.

IDK.. Thinking about the long run. That'd be kinda wierd having 6th gen 00-05, then a seperate generation for one car. Just my two cents, but I see what you guys mean in looks and style.
It is not one car, it is 2 years anda hundred thousand cars.

Engines, engine cradles, suspensions, wheel bases, frames, so on and so on.
