- Do you change your own oil/filter ? -
ORIGINAL: cain45
I will always use Mobil 1 full synthetic with a Mobil 1 oil filter.....never take a chance with an engine.

Hi `James,
How often do you change your oil/filter ? How many miles are on your LTZ ?
How's your average MPG ? Have you had any problems with your 3.9L ?
You stated in another post that you were thinking
of trading for a Lexus IS? Are you unhappy about your Monte Carlo ?
Let us know. Thanks, `Space

Most GM vehicles are now equipped with the GM Oil Life System. With the Oil Life System, your vehicle can actually sense engine speed and temperature, and continuously monitors operating conditions to determine when it's time to change the oil.
Your GM vehicle's Oil Life Monitor will let you know precisely when you need to head to Goodwrench for an oil change, based on your personal driving habits and your area's climate conditions. This saves you money and reduces unnecessary oil waste.
Don't forget to reset your Oil Life Monitor after an oil change. Ask your Goodwrench technician how, or consult your Owner's Manual.

You'll get a more accurate dipstick reading by waiting a few minutes after turning off the engine, giving the oil time to drain from the crankcase into the oil pan.

I use Mobil 1 Extended Performance 15,000mi oil. I have the filter changed and tired rotated every 6,000mi, then at 12,000mi I rotate the tires and change the oil and filter.
I.ve had this routine for over 500,000mi, and have yet to have ANY engine work done.
Until someone comes out with a better warranty on their oil than Mobil with there Mobil 1 E.P., I'm sticking with that, and my Chevy dealer gives me a very good price. They also pickup and deliver while I'm at work.
Besides, I can't even get ramps under my car, nor am I willing to spend that amount of time to jack up the car to rotate my tires and do the oil change myself.

I think its funny, when i got my first car i would take it in to have the oil changed, i soon realized you could save quiet a bit by doing it your self, Now I change my own oil in my monte, I still manage to spend 40 or 45 bucks for amsoil and a filter, only fram filters and amsoil synthetic...
