If you have an active Onstar subscription then it is automatically done as a service.

I do. And I had to re-set the clock myself.

I haven't set my clock back yet because it's still in storage. May be by April it will be nice enough here to drive it.

Interesting... Maybe that is why my OnStar quit working Monday morning. A DST bug in the software

How long have you had the car. Maybe the dealership actived it for you.
Can you dail or receive phone calls in the car?
I once pressed the red button by accident, but I've never tried the phone.
So...what happened? I don't dare touch any of those buttons. Havent read up on it, and don't plan on it anytime soon. I'm not even sure if the onstar is active in my car or not.
A voice came out and said, "ONSTAR Emergency, How may I help you?"

Like I said earlier, it is a world wide fact that 911 works on any deactivated cell phone. Onstar is nothing but a fancy cell phone service so I bet the red emergency button always works with service or no service.

True and on a vehicle without a rear dimming mirror then there is a little green lite to the left of the Onstar buttons. If this light is illuminated then your Onstar is active. If it's out it is not.
Wrong again. Light is to the right of the buttons.

I have Onstar in my 07, and had it in my 04. I maintained the subscription in the 04, mainly to continue having the telephone activated. I remember asking at the time, what would happen if I let the subscription lapse? I was told that even if the Onstarsubscription was not in effect, they would still react to an emergency situation such as if theairbags went off. I didn't think the would continue to answer if you tried to call them, but maybe they do if you use the emergency button.

I know OnStar did it, but I didn't think you needed a subscription. I thought they did that to all vehicles that have OnStar on the vehicle.

no problem man, but you don't hesistate to jump all over people when they give out wrong info, when, as it turns out, you've been wrong more often than not.
