Default Cylinder heads corroded by antifreeze

2004, 3.4 motor. Had skipping then overheating. Found out that the aluminum heads got corroded, eaten away by the antifreeze. The head gaskets got eaten away and then into the combustion chamber. Is this a common problem with this year Monte Carlo? Got reman heads from cylinderheadsinternational. Put them on last night, probably fire it up tomorrow or the next day. Anyhting else I should look for? PO maybe mixed antifreeze or never changed it. Common stuff with this motor?

Makes me think maybe the PO got the kind you are supposed to dilute with water and perhaps didn't. That's why when I do anything to my MC I research first and make sure I'm doing it right. In your case though it sucks because you can't control what the PO did. Any time I buy a car second hand, I change all fluids whether or not I think it needs it. Damage may have already been done but who knows maybe a radiator flush and the damage wouldn't have been as bad. Anyways hope your MC is back on the road soon.

New Reman heads are on, runs like a swiss watch. Sounds great, collant temp is good. $220 for engine gasket set, $150 each for heads and $$ for various small parts and fluids. She is back.
