Chip key?

I have just purchsed a 2000 Monte Carlo and love it. problem is i only have 1 key. My question is do I need a special chip key for this model? Is it a dealer only key,and how much would it cost if it is Thanks

You can take the Key to Home Depot. Not only can they check it to see if it has a chip in it but they can now cut you a now one whether it has a chip in it or not! And it is CHEEPER than the Dealership.
