Can a bad Battery Cause????????
Hello MCF. Been a while and first thing I do is ask a question. Really hope Everyone and your Monte's are doing well in this new year.
So my question is: on a 6th gen, if the battery is bad or going bad, can it cause the security system to act STUPID?
The last time I replaced the Battery the security light stopped coming on. My battery is bad again, won't be getting another one from PepBoys, and my security light comes on 15 min after I'm on the road.
What do you think?

It's possible... Not getting correct voltage to any area can cause funky problems... When my alternator went out, I got dummy lights for just about everything on my dash... Kind of strange to get multiple bad batteries IMO. But if your security light is the only thing going wrong, it's likely an issue with the anti theft system...
yes! mine went nuts when I first got it, the whole dash went haywire, clicking and flashing and it was the battery. next battery down the road kept not starting sporatically like a bad cell, took to my mechanic to check and said battery was good! went to leave and it wouldn't start, put the tester back on and showed bad and got another free battery! haven't had a problem since! but yes, bad batteries can do weird stuff !!
Definitely yes, but when the battery or low voltage is at fault you usually get a flashing "battery" symbol alternating back and forth with the "security" light. Could also be a bad ignition switch housing with low current passing through the contacts.
I have had issues with the Battery similar to what you have indicated.
Sometimes I think that the original AC Delco battery is the best replacement with my 06 Pontiac torrent that battery lasted until 2016 and that was great for a stock battery.
The replacements I have gotten over the years that are off brand were a 3 or 4 year battery. But at the time I thought it was the best I could afford.
I think the next time I get a battery I am going to look at the Delco brand again.
I have tried the Interstate brand but they are about a 3 or 4 year run as well. Just about the time they are out of warranty or at the end of it and they only pro-rate the replacement.
One thing if your alternator goes out you should probably replace the battery at the same time. It seemed to do them in.

Thanks for the replys.
I did have the battery tested. So I know it's bad. I still have a lot of work to do with my Minion. The Widow on the other hand continues to work great.
I may get one of those Hi Current Batteries. Since I will eventually put a Stereo system in it!
But I had seen this situation in old Toyota's and Nissans I've had. Just wasn't sure if the Monte could do it too. Don't want to buy and program a BCM that I don't really need.
I have to replace the battery anyway, so I guest that will be the Real Test.

You may also want to have the alternator checked. Since my Monte was never a daily driver, I went through some crazy battery drain issues for a couple of years. Replaced the battery more than once because it kept failing the diagnostics at the parts store. Eventually had the alter tested due to an "electrical" odor around it. It only failed one bench test at one store (passed again on the same bench and passed at another store), but replaced it due to the odor, no more battery drain issues or failing batteries.
But, as said, anytime the car is not getting the right juice, weird things happen. When the battery was near dead on the Monte, the back up lights would blink, one of the craziest things I thought.

Hay Jason, was hoping you would chime in on this. I figured if anyone has seen wierd battery issues it is you!
Hope all is well with you?
You know my life is a little harder with 2 Montes to look after.
Hay quick question for you. Minion has sat for almost 6 months with a full tank of gas. Should I put a fuel stablizer in before I try to start it! I've heard yes and no.

Fuel stablizer is to prep the car before it sits (so the fuel should not "gum up"). Honestly, should be fine, may want to consider changing the oil where it sits, before starting it, since a lot of the crud in the oil probably settled to the bottom.
Be prepared for bad MPG on old gas, outside of that, should be fine.
FYI - I have a Grand Am with a 3400 in it sitting in my driveway, long story about the car, but let's say it had a really low tank of about 2 year old gas and it still runs lol. I periodically start it to burn off the old fuel (as I want to put some fresh fuel in soon).

Making any progress on the Minion project?
