hey guys.
Thanks for all the replys. I went to the dealership again today and he was saying that he wants to put it up on the lift and do a thorough check thru by cleaning everything underneath and then looking to see where the leak is from.. which is good, I'd like to know exactly what's going on. The dealer was explaining to me that there is a rear main seal that sometimes gets rotted thru after so many years and that you have to take the transmission off and then get behind the flywheel to get to the seal, which I figured.

There's two seals on this engine.. the front and the rear. And just by taking a glance at it, it seems to be dripping from the rear main seal.

The dealer also said that he'll work something out so that I can stay happy so I'm assuming he will take the price of the cost of the labor and divide it in half... probably leaving me with a 350 dollar bill, which is actually a great deal and probably won't pass that up. He also said (which is F-ing awesome!) that if I'd like, I can come in and use his garage if I want to do any of the maintenance myself if I can't afford it.. or something along those lines.

If it comes out to be a lot of cash, then I might take him up on that offer and do the work myself at his garage.. he has a lift AND an engine lift AND a compressor fitting for the drills and stuff. If I were to do it all myself, I would replace the valve seals in it too so I can get another 10 years out this thing hehehehehee...

btw, I'm gonna take pictures of this car today.. got salt all over it from New England weather but I'll take some snaps of the inside too.. how do I post pictures? Can I just import them?

Kweef:
Thanks for checking that out man, I'd really appreciate it. I gotta picks meself up a haynes book myself. It did me wonders with my lumina when I had to replace my arm sensor unit behind my steering wheel. That job stunk! But saved myself about 800 bucks! And the airbag didn't go off in my face [8D]

KidSpace
Thanks for this info man.. wicked helpful.
Even though the reliability report was a 3/5, I still think it's a great car
and with a few kinks fixed, it would run great for a long time.

I think the dealer was honest and was like man, I feel like crap.
But I also think he's kinda hurtin for cash like everyone else so he
can't just 'fix the problem' without me paying something.. which is why
he offered to let me use his garage. Theres plenty of guys there just sitting
around looking for something to do, so I'm sure they'd be more than willing to help.
Which is also good because everyone can learn something about this 3.4L v6.

Which btw, someone mentioned something about the engine being an LQ1.. what's that
mean compared to other 3.4L engines on the GM line?

Wow Space. That is weird?

I mean it's not like I posted a photo of an incredibly hot stripper or anything?

All it was, was a photo of a yellow '02 Monte SS.

For your engine question:

95-99 MC LS = 3100 (L82)
95-97 MC Z34 = 3.4 (LQ1)
98-99 MC Z34 = 3800 (L36)
