realistically, the 3800 (S/C'd or not, has quite a bit of aftermarket, more so than the LS4) You can still mod the ls4 but it's requires a little more creativity than just going to a website and buying something. You can mod intakes from a lot of ls engines to work with the ls4, and headers/exhaust/intakes are pretty easy to come by.

simply put...

if you wanna do some modding -- 3.8 L
if ya want decent power with little work -- 5.3 L

Test drove an 07 SS today(link below for some reason you have to copy and paste). I wasn't that impressed with the overall performance of the car. The tranny shift was a little ruff, the power was there but the kick that you get from the 3800 was not. Overall the styling of the car was nice for lack of better words. The features alone would make you want purchase this car I like the fact the the ignition is in the steering wheel, hopefully less problems. The sale person did not even know that the car had and automatic starter on it. The car was nice, but I think that there were some issues with the car. When I crank the car the engine was tapping then it went away, when I turned on the heat, there was a tapping sound in the dash. The paint was immaculate I didn't think that I would like the stock ss rims that much. Over all I would say that this car is great. The only thing is that the 3800 engine feels stronger than the V8. More power but less punch. In my opinion I now its more of style vs performance.

@BlownUptoHigh that was a crazy video, those people standing on the side of the road are crazy too.

 

If the car doesnt have the punch of the 3800 there is something wrong with it the LS4 has 305 hp from the factory which I think they underrated and can wipe the floor with the New 2012 Dodge Challenger R/T Stock for Stock. So if you think the car is under powered there is something wrong with it dont purchase it!!

Thats what i was thinking! Doesnt punch?!
Mine goes right when i put the gas down, barely even touching it.
having driven both a 3800 monte (my first monte) and an ls4, There is SUCH a difference in power. LS4 CRUISES down the road and gets up to speed much much MUCH faster. I'm kind of confused about the "Not punching"

Also the LS4 will go into protection mode when there is a problem with engine from the computer.
