Default Antenna module smoked

Was working on the boys 2001 Monte SS rear window defroster, yup not working. Searched the forum found a lot great info, yes I replaced the hard to get at circuit breaker and the relay still no power to the grill. So the next step was the antenna module finally got to it and found out the wires coming from the front are burnt along with the plug. My question is can I bypass the module and tie the wires together from the on off button into the wiring for the grills on the rear window. Kinda bugs me that the mod is burned up you would think that a fuse should have blown first. If I do this should I put another fuse link in behind the b pillar cover? Once again thanks for all the help. I've already fixed the check engine light with your help.

I believe that module is used to filter noise between the defroster and the radio antenna as well as voltage coming into the radio from the antenna. Glad to hear you found a replacement, I certainly would not try and bypass it.

I did see one in the junkyard where someone did bypass the module but they also had another antenna coax. I did find a couple on ebay but they are getting harder and harder to find. When we bought the car the owner had new stereo put in because he was told the factory one was no good, now I wonder if the module was the problem all along.

When I had defroster issues, I did find the dealer could get me a brand new module for about $20-$30 (that was 2-3 years ago I think).

If this doesn't work then it's going to the dealer. I did a continuity test on it yesterday and it worked, so we will see what happens after this weekend. I'll let you know how it works out.

Success, watched the video about taking out the back seat and the rest was really pretty easy. I'll see if I can post a picture of the fried module

Here is the bad module, you can see on the plug side where something shorted out.

[IMG][/IMG]This is what it looks like inside front and back, the small board is broke also. Never would've thought that was in there.
