I bought an 87 SS 2 years ago, blew the thermostat and put it away, gonna completely redo everything. Engine wise it has 5.7 vortec, what engine should I put into it for daily driving but also good power, I dailied a 6xx hp mustang for two years! Thanks in advance

 

I stuck with the original style SBC that I built up to ~400hp in my '74 that I've been daily driving for more than 40-years. You should be able to do the same with your Vortec.

 

A 5.3 or 6.0 LS is a great choice for daily use with strong power. Add a mild cam and tune for a fun, reliable setup.
