86 monte ss found for 800....opinion needed.
I am at a quandry right now. I have found a running and driving 86 monte SS with t-tops for 800.00. I am trying to decide if it is worth it or not. It has a 350 carb motor in it , but I believe it has the stock rear and trans. There is very little rust on it (no holes). Even the rear frame rails look great. The floors are solid, but the interior is trashed to where I would have to buy a new dash, center console, rear plastics, maybe the carpet too. The seats are in good shape. It will also needs rims and tires all the way around and a new windshield. The car will also need a front bumper cover, front right fender, lower left fender ground effects, but everything else is there. The car will need paint too but I paint cars on my days off.I am looking at this as an investment as I already have the Monte that I've always wanted, my 78. give me your opinion.

Lots of work ahead of you if you get it, but it would be one heck of an entertaining project. The dash and interior work shouldn't be that complicated or expensive, if you can work with fiberglass. Are you going for the hot rod or the original look? I would most def go for it.

.......86 for $800.00...
......Sounds like this would be a good Hot Rod build. I don't know how much original replacement parts cost for that model of MC
but it could prove to be very expensive and frustrating. You may want to check your salvage yards for a parts car. Fenders, moldings,
interior components..etc..etc.... That could save you some money in the long run. T-Tops and running. That is rare just like that.
Building a Hot Rod might acutally be easier and less frustrating.
Pro touring ? You may want to consider gutting the car and do a rotesiere style rebuild ( budget permitting ?). It would be fun however. If you can afford it......go for it.

I got the SS home 2 days ago and ripped out all the interior and found......NO floor!! It is almost all gone. The nice thing about it, it didn't rust up to the welds so I can cut it out and have good metal to weld to. The other nice thing is that the 79 that I was goingto send to the crusher, has a perfect floor in it, so I will be putting it to good use instead of scraping it.
