Been wondering about this for a while. Heres what I know.
Different engine options
Different front and rear fascias
Different interior
So does that constitute a new generation MC?

It's a very debatable question 4-Sure.
I believe there were enough changes for it to be a new generation, but many call the 06-07 Monte Carlo a
Updated 6th Generation Monte Carlo.
Plus the 06-07 has a completely reDeSigned Interior,
and updated suspension...
I believe `if you own one, you can call it any generation you want to...I'd always answer "It my Generation Monte Carlo"

I dont think it does. Its almost the same thing as the 93-97 and 98-02 camaros. They were about the same difference in all aspects, but were still considered 4th gen.
I vote for 6.5.

More of the user controllable electronic options like key-fob programming and such are on the DIC in the 7th gen, instead of the radio.
I've read articles of people remote mounting the OEM radio to maintain features on 6th gen when they upgrade the system.
7th gen has none of what I call the "Monte Carlo Soul" references. No knight badges no classic script logos. The only place you see the name inside the car is on the rocker panel trim when the door is open.

I agree with Enzo. Even though it was a large update, it was just an update.
With that being said, I would love to own an 06 or 07 SS someday. I know it's not all that powerful, but I would like to have a v8 in a Monte. It just sounds cool

I'd say it's a 7th gen. Maybe just because i own one but i also own an 02 and the differences are subtle, but still differences. As far as changes, what's left really. . . . engine (changed), exterior (changed), interior (changed), suspension (changed). Not a whole lot is interchangeable, and it's not completely different like the 05 and 06 impala's were, but how do you make a fine lookin car even better?

i would say the 06 07 deserves to be called 7th gen...they made small changes but imo most all of the changes where for good. but i do wish they would have used a different hood/headlights than the impala on the 7th gens just so it wouldnt make the front look similar to the impala

I think the main differences between the 6th and 7th Gen Montes are:
Front end off the (then new) Impala- (Meh)
LED lighting on the Instrument Panel, Radio, AC controls, Power Window and Lock switches, and Mirror switches- (Big Improvement- Replacing or converting Instrument panel or AC controls because of burnt out non-replaceable light bulbs= $$$$$)
Rear end resembles the 6th Gen still- (a Plus)
V8 availability on the SS for the 7th Gen (Plus for the performance minded
)
No more 3.4 V6 that had LIM Gasket Problems (6th Gen)
No more "Knight" Badge on the front or "Monte Carlo" Script logos (Big Minus)
Every Monte Carlo has had the "Knight Badge" except the 5th Gen "Lumina Carlos" and the 7th Gen "Impala Carlos", I've noticed..

Get out of here with that. Seriously. We've been over this before... We're all here because we're monte carlo enthusiasts. What do you gain from alienating a large number of members here?
