Default 305 or 350?

My project 87 ls has a factory replacement engine. At 27,000 miles the motor had a nice mix of oil and antifreeze. My dad, who had the car since new, had the motor replaced under warranty by GM. I was told GM used the 350 as a replacement for the 305. Does anyone know if that is a fact or misinformation. As much as I want to put my 327 in I would rather keep all the numbers all matching as much as possible.

If you're looking at the car as an investment, you can never go wrong with "numbers matching".
