My Certificate of Authenticity came in a white 9x12 envelope with "Monte Carlo SS Owner Information Enclosed", and the Dale Jr #8 logo on the front of the envelope. Inside was my certificate, a cover letter from GM, and a 8.5x10 "hero card". The hero card is a picture of Dale Jr leaning against the 2004 Dale Jr edition Monte inside a garage.

I think your certificate may have been put into the frame by the couple you bought the car from. Good idea though. I put my window sticker in a frame also.

Stock wires could last up-ward to 100K miles

Honestly though, I would just do a full tune-up and get it all changed just so you KNOW for sure when everything has been done.

Thanks guys. I didn't see the white envelope, cover letter or Hero card so I doubt I have it. Of course I have not gone through the owner's manual or any of the other manuals to see if anything is inside them. I plan on putting the window sticker in a frame.

I plan on doing a tune up with new plugs, wires, fuel filter and maybe air filter if its dirty. Do these cars also have a cabin filter and if so, where is it at?

Today I stopped at the dealership that actually sold the car new and was asking if my Onstar had been upgraded to digital. It was mostly out of curiousity because I doubt I would use Onstar. As far as they can tell it has not been upgraded. It would cost $199 for a years subscription and $15 for the digital upgrade.

Do any of you guys use Onstar or have had your cars upgraded to Digital Onstar?

I also asked if they could tell me what warrenty work had been done on the car. The guy said that the only thing showing was the gauge cluster replacement and that was it. The info was based on the VIN so I assume it would tell of any warrenty work done regardless of what dealer it was done at. So I guess its been a very reliable car. The Carfax report shows a service contract issued at 12 miles so I'm assuming they bought an extended warrenty. The report also shows the dash gauges being checked at 58,354 miles which is when I assume the cluster was replaced and at this mileage the regular warrenty would have been up.

I went looking at tires today. All different prices. Most were H rated instead of the factory W rating. One place told me they would not put H rated tires on my car. What brand of tires do you guys recommend for this car?. I don't like Goodyear even though I know they are the factory tire for this car. My last two new vehicles came with Goodyears and they both sucked and did not last long. Thanks again.

labnjab,
Nice looking car. Looks like you got a good price considering the miles that were on it. There was a Dale Jr car on CL out of Charlotte NC with only 8,000 miles on it and they were asking $13,945 for it. I wish I could have afforded that plus it was too far away. I'll probably leave mine stock for now. Take care.

Check out www.tirerack.com they can give a good break-down of tires for your car and reviews on them from people.

The cabin filter is underneath the cowl of the passenger wiper blade. Be careful putting that back in, clean all the weather stripping and such so it seats right or else you'll have water in your passenger floor-board.

I would honestly skip the air filter, and go ahead and start researching cold-air intakes. Since you are supercharged you will want to start doing some slight modifications to make sure your engine isn't knocking. Plus could give you a little increase of MPGs

I have been on Tirerack.com and still can't decide. I've not read good things about the stock Goodyears on here but there seems to be quite a few positive reviews on tirerack. With some of the mileage people are reporting on the stock Goodyears, I'm wondering if my back tires are original.

Thanks on the cabin filter location.

I might eventually do the cold air intake mod but my problem is that I will not put a K&N type air filter on any vehicle I own and most CAI's that I've seen come with this type of filter. I've done a lot of research over the years on these type of filters and ran a K&N for awhile but my oil analysis results showed increased levels of dirt with this filter. I've also read of many other OIA's running these type of filters with the same results. Your mileage may vary though. Thanks.

I found that the car loses traction very easily with the stock Goodyear's. I imagine the supercharger has a lot to do with this. In addition to the road conditions.

I went with Toyo Versado LX all season tires. But they're not much improvement in the traction department. The ride, however, is like night and day. The Toyo's have a much more comfortable ride than the factory Goodyear RS-A's. I can't remember what the speed rating is right now, and it's too dark outside to see.

If you get a lot of snow where you live, I would highly recommend getting some snow tires on some cheap steal rims for the winter. I had traction problems with both the Goodyear's and the Toyo's in the snow. Again, the car tends to overpower the traction of the tire very quickly. Especially with All Season tires in winter. So if you do that, you could go with a performance tire for the warm months. Instead of an all season tire.

About the cabin filter...

It's kind of a pain to check/change compared to the engine air filter. I got the step by step instructions printed out from a local Chevy dealer. I'll have to scan the illustrations and put the instructions in the How To section when I get a chance.

Congrats on your purchase! I am so happy for you. As for the tires, the stock Goodyears suck. When I bought my 05 last Feb, the first thing I did was buy tires (it still had the originals on it (60k miles). I decided on the High performance all season Goodyear GTs from Tirerack. I read the ratings and it scored very high on all types of conditions. I think they perform well. I haven't tried them in deep snow yet - and I'm sure it won't be long LOL!!!!

Thanks guys. I'm not too concerned about how the tires will do in snow because I don't plan on driving much in snow. I have two 98 chevy 4x4's for that. I want something that has a decent ride and are not going to wear out very quickly. I"m thinking of getting the Pirelli Pzero all season's as they have a pretty good rating and are a best seller. The car currently has Pirelli's on the front but I don't know which ones. The car is currently in the garage at my house in another town while I'm staying with my fiancee. I still need to get it tagged.

Taz, I would like to see the info regarding changing the cabin filter if you ever get the chance to post it.

Does anyone have any thoughts about the question I posted above about the Onstar? Does anyone use the XM radio in these cars and is that worth getting? This is my first car that has both of these features so I don't know much about either.

Do they still make factory service manual's for this car? I did not see any on Ebay like I see for other ones. I just saw manuals on CD that were not factory ones. I have factory service manuals for all of my vehicles and really like them. They give info that chilton's and Haynes don't. Thanks again.
