1983 monte carlo cl with T tops
#21
83 is when they changed body style. 82s had that front end and 83s were angled looked more aerodynamic. Thats why they used them in nascar. He said he had a 383 stroker. thats a 350 with a 400 crank. Nice motor to have in a nice car. thumbs up no rust and a stroker.
1982
1983
if you ask me they look the same. maybe you just have a better eye for detail.

i know they didnt change the nose or body of the car from 82-83. i wanted to demonstrate that the previously posted information was incorrect about the nose of your car. though there are most probably people that could point out the differences between the different years of the 4th gen montes just by looking at the header panels and name the years, mr grizzly mint is clearly not one of them(i also am not one of them. i dont own a 4th gen nor have i ever, but with that said i also wouldnt claim to be able to tell one year from the next year 4th gen unless i was 100% sure. im far more well versed in 3rd gen cars).
also the 10th digit of your car being a d makes that vin a 1983 vin, but since the factory block, rearend, and ill assume starter, alternator, and battery are not in the car theres pretty much no way to tell if the vin matches the car. it could be a rare not offered 83 t top monte, it could be a 83 vin on a different year car, or it could be t tops that were added later on. personally i wouldnt care either way id be happy to have any t top monte. replace the weather stripping on the tops and enjoy it.

yep its an 83. d is 83. has to be super rare. all the 83s I have seen around here even non ss had the aerodynamic front end.
Most ppl must use ss front ends on thier montes. There is a grey one that runs around festus that is a non ss with this front end. this is the 83 I am used too.

thats an ss nose. 83 is the first year its offered on the monte carlo. it can be purchased from numerous places and put on any year or model monte carlo(and ill assume malibu/el camino). its not stock on any monte carlo but an ss car. all ss cars look the same more or less with exception of minor changes in decals, wheels, 3rd brake lights, spoilers, gear ratios, and colors, but they all have that header panel no matter what year they are(oh and the 305HO lol). to my knowledge there are only 3 factory offered 4th gen monte carlo header panels.
the standard nose
ls nose (euro nose)
ss nose
there are also aftermarket setups, but none of these were ever factory offered.
3rd gen camaro nose
lumina nose.( yes thats an el camino they used to have a monte version. for all i know that one may fit the monte as well. personally my favorite.)
op sorry for jacking your thread, but knowledge is king.
