1980 turbo MC with sunroof
i like the G body cars but there so hard to find parts for. i found a 1980 turbo monte carlo seems to be in good shape but is it worth $5000. i have a 79 MC and a 79 cutlass but there a pain for parts. thanks

think it all depends on what you want to do with the car. the turbo montes arent fast, but im sure being limited production theyll be worth something someday(many many moons from now). you probably would have a way easier time if you found an 81 turbo car. 4th gen stuff is cake finding parts for, being made for 7yrs helps. having a car only made for 3yrs with 3 different header panels, chrome trim, and tail lights is a nightmare. i can only imagine an 80 turbo car would be even worse being one yr only(body wise). now this only applies if you want to have a numbers matching car, but like i said they really arent worth anything so whats the point. you could buy just about any monte put a carbed turbo v6 in it with a bad hood scoop, and it would look just as bad, run like trash, and be just as slow. i think if you want it because you like it and can afford it, then go for it. if you want it because you like the looks, and dont care about numbers matching stuff then find yourself any granny fresh v6 monte, get the hood scoop for it, drop in the sfi turbo 3.8 and go hunting.(hope i didnt offend with this post. i was only speaking from the heart, having driven, worked on, and owned a few of these things over the past 15yrs its a love/hate relationship. i hate them because theyre made into lowriders constantly, get zero respect by "real muscle car/hot rod" owners, and no matter how much you throw into them, how good they look, or how quick they are, they arent worth a dime, but i love'm because they look cool, theyre the lightest of the montes, all 3yrs look different, and with a decent combo they earn that respect from the "real muscle car/hot rod" guys). oh and while i was ranting op i didnt straight out answer your question. no its not worth 5k. unless its showroom fresh, optioned out, has like 4miles on it, and was in a hermetically sealed room for the past 33yrs. even then only a truly insane monte carlo man would want it. i love a good g/abody, but not that much.

Take the turbo, use it on a Series II 3800, and shock the absolute hell out of the "hot rod" and "import" crowds at the same time. I wouldn't pay 5 grand for the car itself to do that but I saw a GN where the guy blew his original block and got the wild idea of hooking that turbo to a Series II. It was freakin ridiculous, and Grand Nationals are already fast to start with but it put the stock GNs to shame. I'd like to do a swap like that someday.
