Talking 1976 model engine

Hi to everyone!
I'm interested in buying a Monte Carlo that I see every day in my way to university, but after working next summer (December-January here, I'm from Perú), so after even making myself more ilusions, I would like to know what kind of engines can fit the car. Is a 1976 Monte Carlo Landau, with a 305 engine. The owner said the car haven't been used in the last 20 years, so I doubt the engine works properly, and anyways, a 5 liter would be too much for my student budget. Here in Perú I could easily find a Nissan Silvia or Skyline engine plus transmission for about $2500 directly from Japan, but an American engine would be a lot more expensive.
So resuming, my question is: Would a Nissan Silvia/Skyline or any other kind of smaller engine would fit the 1976 Monte Carlo?
Thanks in advance

Yes, it could be done, but it would be expensive to do it.
If the Monte has sat for 20 years or more, you will have more problems then just an engine & transmission. Any car that sits that long will have many issues with every mechanical part on the car, & everything that ages from the elements: like electrical system, seals, cooling system, etc

I suggest if a 76 or that generation is the type of Monte Carlo you desire, then I would starting searching for one that is running & can be driven...

Wish you good luck Oh, and Welcome to the MCF

Oh what a pity
Is not that I like exactly the Monte Carlo, is only that I like cars of that era, and those aren't very common here. In fact, is the first Monte Carlo I've seen ever. Those never were sold as new here, this one (and every other american car from that time) is a grey market import.
I still have time to think about it, at least till march next year, and if I decide to buy it, I'll let you know
Thanks for your answer
