Found an old pic of my 1970 Monte.
This was taken in about 2000 when the paint still looked good. I had the body redone and repainted in 1993. Its painted the factory Fathom Blue. Unfortunately the clearcoat is coming off and it doesn't look that good anymore. It has another paint job in its future.

The 454ss rocker trim was the only outside badges that identified the car as an SS. These can easily be added so you have to look at the other indicators on whether the car is a true SS. The car above does not have the 454ss badges on the rocker trim.
The car is still nice and might still be worth $3,500 plus it has the desirable bucket seats and console. I wish my car had come with them. I love first generation Monte's.

I thought a Monte Carlo SS could come with a 396 anyway, like the Chevelle? Interesting. The SS with a 454 woudl be differentiated with an "SS454" decal instead of just SS though, if it was like the Chevelle.
Who did the body work? Inspect to see how well that was done if you can, look for lines where someone may have welded, carry a magnet and make sure a whole panel isn't made of bondo or something. Even if it runs and needs an engine rebuild, $3500 is a good price... try to talk him down to $3000 cash
