For 06/07 5.3L owners..oil filter....
Just curious as to what everyone uses...I always stick with AC Delco oil filters....Now I am using the UPF 44 Ultra Gold oil filters (The black ones) The vette guys/camaro owners seem to really like them.
I ordered a bunch of them and the difference in weight is incredible. The UPF 44 is so much heavier then the standard Delco filters or fram or whatever else you buy.
Look them up on google and you will see some photos and cutaway pictures of them. Very high quality.

Thanks for the info.
I've only personally done one oil change on my '06 3.9 LTZ.
I used the extra capacity NAPA gold filter.
I've used the NAPA gold filters for many years. Even on my '57 Chevies. I've also read other car owners who will like them, too.

You are pretty much going to find a group of people who swear by each product. Fram, NAPA, Valvoline, Delco... I personally use valvoline filters with full synthetic Valvoline oil. No problems thus far.
I will add though, I have yet to replace the oil in my Monte. It says that I still have 60% life left, and I just got the thing.

My '06 oil monitor said my car still had 80% oil life left when I changed the oil/filter.
But Onstar sent me an emailsaying it had been one year since my last oil change and the service needed completed.
So just to be sure, I did an oil change on the car.

Yeah, that is probably a good idea. My OnStar report was the same percentage as what my DIC says. The oil itself looks fine as far as color and level too.

i dont think that the difference is that signifigant. cus either way at 3000 miles it comes off and a new one goes on. unless you use royal purple or the mobil1 10000 mile stuff and change your oil and filter every 5 or 6000 then it might. but otherwise whats the big deal?

You could argue all the oil comes from the same refinery and have a good point.
Oil filters though are not created equal.
Fram USED to be the brand to buy. That's not true today. I know first hand I've seen rust in their new oil filters. Not the cheap ones either. Their better brand which is close to or above $10 each.
Do you want rust entering your engine? Only if you don't mind finding a replacement car, engine, or you're will to go for a re-build.
I happen to like the NAPA gold filters which if I'm not mistaken are packaged by WIX. Another good brand of oil filters.
Some rag on the Walmart Super Tech oil filters but in a pinch they've come through for me.

imo there is no reason to buy the expensive filters. if your car is running well, you don't drive on dirty/dusty roads constantly, and you change your oil every 4-5k on conv oil and about 7k on synthetic, there is no need. i have cut away many types of filters from cheap to expensive on synthetic and conventional, on a few different types of vehicles (lumina, grand am gt, monte, a bonnevilleand 06 silverado).have used napa gold or delco filters every time and the filters are VERY clean every oil change. basically, if you keep up with the change intervals, your vehicle will run pretty clean without the expensive filter (ie mobil 1 etc). SAVE YOUR MONEY!!
