Default 05 SS Engine question.....supercharged or not?

I've been looking at purchasing an 05 Monte Carlos SS. I have looked at it before but didn't have the money at the time to even consider taking it for a test drive. Well, the car is still for sale, I've got the money but I've got a question because I didn't look under the hood at the time. (I'm also an hour and half away from the dealer and that's why I'm asking instead of just going to look right away)

The dealer tells me that it's a 3.8 non-supercharged engine. After doing some research, I've found that 2005 SS's all came supercharged. Is this true? If so, I'm wondering if the motor has been swapped out even though the dealer says no. Is there a possibility that the person who bought it new asked for it to be non-supercharged and they did it as a special order? Just curious before I pursue this car any further.

I'd like to go look at it again, but I don't want to spend an hour and a half drive and find out it's crap. Going to see if he'll give up the VIN so I can do a carfax and check it out that way.

Thanks for the help!

Or the dealer is clueless... Either way you can add the sc later. Get the 05 monte. It's a great platform for a build.

I answered this on fb when you posted about it

All 05 ss were supercharged. Either they got the year wrong or don't know what a supercharger is. Run the vin number it will tell you if it was suppose to me supercharged or not and the correct year.

Ask the dealer if he can send you a few pics of the motor, that will give you a better idea if he knows what he is talking about. You will see the motor cover and it should say "supercharged" on it, and if there is no motor cover (I am honestly not certain if they came on the 05) you will definitely see the supercharger sitting on top of the motor.

I got the VIN from him and found out that it was a 2004. This gives me a little ammo to knock the price down more on this guy. Gonna have to do a real good look over on it though to make sure it's worth it. Thanks everyone.....

Might be time to walk away, sounds like he's a little shady. If your going to by this car get in writing what the gaurantees are and give the car a thurough once over to make sure there's not any issues yout missing.

I'm walking away from it. The water pump or something started leaking when I was test driving it. He was all about replacing it but I also smelled burning oil through the heater vents. I pushed it, but not too hard........so yeah, I'm not gonna buy that POS.........time to start looking for another one. Glad I don't have to buy NOW and can wait till the right one pops up.
