Default Tail Light Mod

Ive had a few ppl lately ask how I done this so figured id do a quick write up

Basicly this mod will make your tails look like this when lights are on

Top is still the signal and bottom the brake

I first went to Car Quest and got a 3 wire GM socket about $12 each or you can goto a junk yard and pick up another set of tail light harnesses

First you need to cut one tab off the socket so it fits in the tail light like this

Next step you cut the 2 wire socket off your harness (no pic sence i done this 2 years ago)

Than you wire the 3 wire socket up to the harness, black is ground and depending on which socket you buy the major wire goes to the green wire (if u buy a new socket the colors are the same)

Next step cut the black and white wire on the lil side socket and leave plenty of wire on each end, than wire the minor wire from the 3 wire socket to this

Default Tail Light Mod

Hey, thanks for the information on the tail light mod - need some clarification - were you able to use the same bulbs? Also, I'm a little fuzzy on some of the steps...your help will be much appreciated... thanks!

I believe the bulbs are different, look at the part numbers on the bulbs to be sure, otherwise you will have to buy another brake light bulb nothing major.

I did this mod with my Monte. If I recall, all the bulbs stay the same EXCEPT the bulb where you change the socket. You need a bulb with two filaments in that new socket (which I believe is the same part number as some of the other bulbs). It's actually a pretty easy mod, just take your time. If you are nervous, grab a pair of harnesses from the junk yard to play with.

I have a 2000 Monte Carlo I put 2006 Monte Carlo tail lights on it all the lights works turn signal,hazard work except the brakes when I push the pedal down it does do anything no brake light

I am going to suggest you start a new thread about this issue to get best responses.

I picked up a pair of 3 wire oem sockets but the colors are different... mine are black, brown with white stripe and a solid white
