I did my front brakes yesterday. I forgot to remove the cap for my fluid reservoir and while compressing the piston, I heard a pop and fluid started draining from between the master cylinder and power booster. Any ideas what I might have gotten myself into here? When I press/depress the brake pedal now, I can hear air compression from the power booster and it moves in and out with the compression of the brake pedal.

Is this something a beginner should attempt? My rear brakes are screeching everytime I hit my brakes and I really dont want to pay my local repair shop over $250 just to change it for me. I can change a flat tire but I've never attempted this before. Should I try it?

 

Calipers are easy its the old drums that are a pain with springs and crap.

 

Replacing the rotors and pads is a fairly simple job that even a person with minimal mechanical aptitude should be able to accomplish. Doing a search at YouTube should bring up a few examples, but if you plan on doing your own vehicle maintenance it would probably be beneficial to invest in a repair manual.

 

I agree with Mike. It is a fairly simple job that can be accomplished with some simple hand tools. There are tons of videos on youtube, I would watch more then one to make sure you have all the info you need. Also I would suggest only taking apart one side at a time so if you get stuck on reassembly you can look at the other side and match it up. If your not replacing the rotors you should at least have them turned, most brake shops will do this for a small fee. Some cars its cheaper to just buy new rotors.

 

I would recommend getting a good socket set for this. Those caliper/bracket bolts can be on there PRETTY TIGHT.

Has anyone put these on? Also if i go with hawk pads and the fbody kit here is the stainless brake lines really needed? ZZPerformance - F-Body Dual Aluminum Piston Brake Kit #ZZ-FBDY-BRKT
Also when upgrading brakes what about e-brakes on the rear, and do we need to flush brake fluid completely? Any info would be appreciated thanks

I would upgrade the front brakes first, thats where you need the most stopping power. Ive heard that gxp drilled and slotted 13" rotors/calipers are fairly easy to swap onto 00-05 montes
