When it came to shift *****, GM "kept it simple". For years in the 80's and 90's a bulk of GM cars used the same t-shifter.
Speaking about our Montes, the shift ***** used in '99/'00+:
- Impalas
- Bonnevilles
- Grand Am
Possibly others, were the same until roughly 2004-2006 when some models began changing. This is regarless of leather vs rubber/vinyl.

Like Chibi, I am using a leather **** from a 00+ Bonneville. It adds the missing style I felt the Monte needed (I don't understand why GM offered a leather wheel, but only a vinyl **** unless you had a limited edition Monte). I kept the Pontiac gray button, as it almost completely matches the pewter pieces I put in to two-tone my Monte's interior.

I have dark gray leather wrapped shift **** from a Grand Am still for sale. The color is so dark, it's easily mis-taken for black. I'm asking $30 shipped. What I'm selling look almost brand new, stitching is great, no damage that I can find to the leather. I'm asking $30 shipped.

You can check it out in this thread ---> https://montecarloforum.com/forum/pr...ean-out-37360/

You'll never want another vinyl **** again (I put a leathe one in the '94 Grand Am, popped the vinyl one back in as I'm giving the leather one to a friend now that the car is for sale and man, I miss the leather ****).

Im personally not a fan of the leather..the stock ***** can look great with just a little vinyl paint!

the shift boot however, would look better switched out. How do you remove a shift boot? Is it fairly easy? Or do you have to remove the center console?

There is a clip in the front side of the ****.Shifterknob_zpsfbf902e9.jpg Use a small screwdriver or the like. Make sure that it doesn't spring out on you. Wiggle off current ****.
Also directions are in the 1st post.

I have since taken the boot over the **** itself. I'll get an updated pic tomorrow.
