I have the 3800 and im at 117,xxx miles, i only had a master cylinder replaced about 10,000 miles ago, and a hub bearing about 17,000 ago. Did the transmission flush thing at 100,000. Doing a coolant flush in about 2 weeks. Change the oil regularly. My MAF sensor went bad about 2,000 miles ago, might be related to my cold air intake, (correct me if im wrong). Car runs great for me, the only thing im expecting is the transmission to start going in about 20,000 to 30,000 miles.

That's just dex-cool being dex-cool. And the material the gaskets are made out of. If you change the Dex-cool often it shouldn't be too bad.

If you are mechanically inclined and have the tools, doing it yourself will save you lots of money.

Old coolant in general becomes acidy over time. Dex-cool has "stop leak" in it and it plugs things that you don't want to plug. People have reported chunks of sludge forming in the the coolant. Just bad stuff.

You can flush your own coolant...not too hard...the thermostat on a 3.4 is kind of tough to get at but I would change it with a coolant flush. They are cheap.

On your 3.4 I wouldn't bother going with a colder thermostat. Your heat does suffer from it, but you wouldn't gain much from the cooler temperatures
