Default what wrong with my car?!?!?!

okay guys so my car has been doing some messed up stuff lately with the way it has been shifting weird. like first gear will go to almost 5k rpms then second will hit and then to keep the car at a constant speed it is at 2500-2700 rpms. whats going on? it still runs fine, shifts smooth, just doesnt shift till late. could it be one of my clutches going out? maybe a shift solenoid? someone help me. thanks in advance

Have you tried Manually shifting it, both up and down shifting? Is your Trans Fluid ( Devon VI) at the right level? Are you getting any CEL Codes?
If you are not getting CEL codes then it is more than likely a Mechanical problem. Clutches, Torque Converter.
Personally I think it's your Clutches. If I remember correctly, if your torque converter has a problem, it will throw the code for the TCC.
Even if you are not getting any codes you still may want to have your Monte stand with a TECH II scanner. It's the only one that will read your Trans, ABS, and Brakes! You could have a Stored Code!

manual shifting it doesnt change it. like i said it shifts fine its just shifts late i guess then revs high. i was thinking it could be the clutches or possibly the shift solenoids. idk about the trans fluid level.

I'm sorry to say, if it's shifting late, it's not shifting fine. I had the same problem. Just got it fixed in Sept. 2014. Cost me $2100 for a complete Rebuild and upgrade.
My car was shifting late too. 2500 RPMs to shift from 1st to 2nd and so on to 70 mph where my RPMs would be at 2600. I had to rev it up to 3000 RPMs to climb hills and my gas mileage was at about 12 mpg.
It ended when I completely lost 3rd gear. Turned out all me solenoids and my Torque converter was bad. I took it in and got it fixed with updated parts. This was on my 02 Monte SS, 3800 with 183k miles on it at the time.
What you described is very similar to how my Trans problem started!

Either the transmission needs a rebuild, the torque converter may be messing up or your Throttle Position Sensor is messed up. I had an issue with shifting late when my TPS was going out. That's best case scenario.

Or maybe you just need to change the fluid and filter. My '03 has done that twice since I've owned it and both times a filter and fluid change solved the problem. The first time was at 100k miles and the second time was at 197k miles. If your trans has not been serviced in more than 75k miles, I'd say it's time. And if you decide to try the fluid and filter change, I recommend using the Castrol "High mileage" fluid.

I was told by my Trans guy not to Flush it, just dump the old fluid and filter and put new in. Using that Trans Flush stuff does something to the clutches. I don't remember what!

I have also heard and read to NOT flush the trans. I heeded that warning.
