Question What Exactly Is Knock Retard???

Finally i ordered my modular pulley system from zzp! Dropping from stock pulley to 3.4! I have been waiting to do this mod for a while now lol well i should recieve the part this friday! Also ordered the serpentine belt for it. With that being said, how can i find out if i have KR? Is there any way of telling other than with a scanner? What exactly is knock retard??

You need a scanning tool to monitor your KR, or get a gauge and tap into your knock sensors.

Knock Retard is the amount of timing the PCM pulls to prevent detonation in the combustion chambers. For each degree of timing that gets pulled, you lose ~3 horsepower and run the risk of breaking a piston (therefore having to replace the shortblock AT LEAST)

Thank u guys for the info and advice! After installing the new pulley, i want to either cam or get yella terra rocker arms. Would either mod help with KR?

Both would help. Rockers are easier to install but do not yield as much gains as a cam would.

Get a scan tool before you go changing your s/c pulley.

agree both cam or rockers will gain hp but a cam will gain you more.

i use a aeroforce scan gauge to monitor knock on turbo monte.

what mods do you already have done to support the 3.4 pulley?

My supporting mods are K&N CAI, speed daddy headers, 180 tstat, 104 plugs, egr delete, and custom 3 in piping all the way back with flowtech mufflers...i think i should be ok to drop?
