That's the one I try to use everytime too...

 

I use Royal Purple. But the next change I think I'm going to try AMSOIL. I have used Royal Purple in my '04 for the past 2 1/2 years. Used Pennsoil before that.

 

I use Valvoline Conventional in all of my vehicles. I used to be a big Mobil 1 fan years ago but after doing oil analysis on my 98 Chevy Z71, I found that I was not getting my money's worth. Switched back to conventional oil and all of my wear metals went down. Go figure.

I'm a big believer in regular oil changes over extended changes. All oil accumulates contaminates whether its conventional or synthetic and I just feel better not running my oil for thousands of miles.

I'm a firm believer in synthetic motor oils myself. As far as I'm concerned, organics are as antiquated as a Model T. The stuff was $30 a quart years and years ago... now it's coming down to like $8-9 a quart.... I love the stuff myself. I used Pennzoil... stuff was just getting a little bit on the sludgy side after 3000-4000 miles or so. Royal Purple comes out just as good as it went in.. just a bit darker though. Although I run Royal Purple, there is no reason I wouldn't run another brands synthetic oil if the store happened to be running a special the day I decide to change oil, which, for me, is about every 8-10,000 miles and a year.

 

The oil I use is the one that's on sale. Some of you will think that I'm insane, but I buy whatever oil/filter combo is on sale. I think I spent $16 on a microgard filter and 5 qts of whatever brand came with it last time. I've even used the store brand oil (ie "Advanced Auto or O'Rielly") a few times. So yea, I'm using cheap conventional oil, cheap filters, and running at least 5,000 miles between changes. I'm at 204,000 miles currently.

If I was racing the car or redlining it on a regular basis, I would feel the need to upgrade, but it's a stock motor that shifts at under 2,500 rpm on my leisurely 25 mile work commute. Cheap car - cheap oil.

I should add that some of the members on this forum have put serious time and money into their powertrains, or have high performance stock motors - and they drive the car hard - so for them, I think spending a few extra bucks on performance oil and filters is worth it.

 

I agree... modern oils are usually good quality. 30-40 years ago, brands made a difference... my dad told me a story once about how Quaker State was so bad in the 70's. A construction company brought in a 302 engine Furd truck with about 75,000 miles on it, would hardly run... dad pulled the drain plug to let out the oil before puling the engine, and nothing came out... hardly. So he pulled the engine, dropped hte pan, and the oil was just straight sludge. Quaker State and STP stop knock stuff didn't get along. There was some other brand of oil back then that was bad... but stuff is a lot better today than yesterday.

But I still like the synthetics... and I'm not one of the guys to claim Mobil 1 Full Synthetic is better than Royal Purple, Valvoline better than Amsoil... I'm not one of these guys. I've heard a lot of good stuff about Amsoil over the years though. But I'll run any of it, as long as it's full synthetic. I'm even thinking of beginning to run full synthetic in my Torino.

 

I use valvoline in mine & try to change it around 5000k miles or sooner
