personally i wouldnt run above 7psi without an intercooler, but there are turbo kits avalible for the 3800 that are in the 9-10 psi range without intercoolers. but at these levels you deff need some good tuning or you will have some major issues.

Depends on the car. Some will only go to about 5 lbs of boost and others will goto 8-10. If you run higher octane fuel like 93 or higher you can get away with higher boost. Some of the problem though is with the head gaskets. The gasket has a metal band and it may extend into the the cyclinder. When it does it stays hot and causes knock which will contribute to blowing the engine.

The single and only way to find out is once you have the turbo on, start with 3lbs of boost and scan it. Keep increasing by 1 lb of boost until you get a KR reading. Then backoff 1 lb and you should be dialed in.
