Default Transmission shift problem

Well for my first post here I need to pick everyone's brains about a transmission shift problem. I just picked up a 2001 SS from my brother in law.that was having the hard shift problems associated the pcs being bad. He had pulled everything off and replaced the pcs but hadn't put the car back together. Car sat for a year until we put it back together yesterday. At first the car wouldn't move at all in any gear but after it sat idling for about 10 minutes it would go in drive but not reverse. Drove it around the block a few times and then it started driving in reverse. Current problems are that when you give it more than say a quarter of the accelerator the car accelerates until it hits about 2500 rpms and then it pops out of gear and hits the rev limiter, after shifting from drive to reverse multiple times the car responds less and less to engine rpms until it doesn't move at all, when shifting into drive initially if you don't ease very slowly off the brakes the car stalls out, and finally after easing off the brakes and accelerating the car shudders (but not if you very lightly hold the brakes). So besides run away from the car what are everyone's thoughts? If I need to I can pull the trans back apart although that's not my preferred course of action.
